This course is designed to train and prepare students in all elements of pre-hospital and basic life support in accordance with the standards prescribed by the California Administrative Code, Title XXII and by the local emergency medical service agencies. Instruction includes scene management, OB/GYN emergencies, patient assessment, shock airway management, immobilization, dressing and bandaging, extrication and rescue, and other emergency responses to include cultural diversity and sensitivity to issues and communication. Course content is taught through lectures, instructor demonstration, self-directed instruction, skills laboratory and practical experience in a community classroom (hospital and field sites). At the end of this course, students will receive their AHA BLS Healthcare Provider CPR certification and will qualify to sit for their National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam. Upon passing the exam, students will be nationally certified as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
